Chinese medical expert predicted the Covid epidemic will peak in February and start to recede in April.
Both S & P and Nasdaq closed the record highs. S & P rose 5 points and Nasdaq rose 13 points. Dow Jones first rose more than 100 points but closed down a fraction. US markets first rose but fell back at the close. DAX rose 136 points CAC rose 39 points and FTSE rose 52 points. European financial experts believed the Covid epidemic would have negligible effect on Europe. Hang Seng index closed up 342 points and H share index up 154points. Shanghai composite index closed up 11 points. Mainland retailers and restaurant stocks rose. Alibaba would not be included in stock connect. The top blue chip gainers were: Geely +6% Country Garden +2.92%. CCB rose 2.7% for 55 point gain.AIA rose 1.26% for 33 point gain. Hang Seng index gained more than 300 points. In the afternoon, the market was little changed. Hang Seng index closed the morning up 341 points and H share index up 166 points. Shanghai composite index closed up 10 points. Nagaworld announced 33% increase in 2019 net profit and 75% increase in final dividend. Property management shares followed higher. Heavyweights Tencent, CCB, HSBC, AIA and ICBC led the rally.
Hang Seng index gained more than 400 points and reached a peak at 27675 points, up 434 points. Local retailers continued to attract speculators. Only CKH and CK Infrastructure fell at opening. Citic Ltd rose 2.2% to become the second top gainer. Share price rose 8.6% to become the top gainer and contributed 20 point gain. Geely announced plans to merge with Volvo of Sweden and will list the combined company in Hong Kong and Sweden. Hang Seng index opened up 273 points and H share index rose 102 points.
